The closing date of the Crypto Contest has been extended by one week to 2359 hrs, 17 Jul 2002 !

Cryptography has a longer history than computer security. This is a decryption contest. The subject is the famous Enigma cipher used by the Germans during World War II. Incidentally, a movie called "Enigma" had been released in the theatre some time back. See http://www.enigmathefilm.com/. There was also another movie previously - "U-571", which also featured the Enigma machine.

Your entry must state the answers, detail the techniques and any software tools used. Answers would be assessed based on (a) correctness of answer, (b) clarity of explanation and (c) meeting of closing date. Judges' decision is final. Contest is open to SIG^2 members only. There are rumours that the first prize is an autographed book to do with this subject area......
