We had a nice and enriching experience with LUGS (Linux user Group, Singapore) as we were brought through an anatomy of a hacked server. It was agreed that most of the time, proper procedures that were recommended, especially with respect to contacting the law enforcing body, were not taken because the company in-concerned has requested so. Thus it is a balancing act that all incident handler must handle with care!
