SIG^2 Inaugural Event The turnout at SIG^2's Inaugural Event at DSTA Auditorium on 13 September exceeded our expectations. 140 people turned up and signed up on the spot as members. Processing all these registrations pushed back our program's start by half an hour. There were also not enough refreshments and snacks, because we had originally expected and catered for 40 persons. While this unexpectedly high level of response was a good sign, we also recognize that we could have been better prepared to handle this contingency. Apologies - we will be better prepared next time. We had a introduction by pro-tem president, Wong Ford Long and then a short background on the origins of the SIG by Dr Tan Yang Meng, DSO Principal Member of the Technical Staff. The first technical talk was given by Bret Watson, IT Security Manager from Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, on his experience in managing the IT security of a large company and insights into the future of IT security. The second talk was given by Mr Tan Sze Yan, DSO Member of the Technical Staff, on the security of cable modems. Lance Spitzner unfortunately, did not manage to make it to speak at the event, but we hope to catch him when he is in town again.Click on this link to view the photographs of that day. We will follow up with the launch of the Crypto Challenge and other activities, including informal workshops, in the near future. Stay tuned ! We have received some feedback on the event and are attempting to address these. For a look, click this link. SIG^2 Mailing List With the help of some members, we will be migrating the website to new servers at another premise. We target to get the mailing list up on the new server by end of next week (30th Sep). Will email all of you when it is ready. For the time being, the SIG forum is activated and members can feel free to start any discussions there.
